Women and Girls In International Development
1982 - 2025
Virginia Tech established the Women in World Development Program in 1980's. Over the +40 years of its existence, what became the Women and Girls in Development worked to ensure all constituents benefit equally and the priorities of local groups are honored in Virginia Tech's development work.
The WGD program worked collaboratively with Virginia Tech faculty and students, partner organizations around the world, and other stakeholders to conduct interdisciplinary research on women’s issues to increase opportunities for all constituents while achieving projects' technical goals.
As a learning community and academic resource, WGD sought to build capacity to address disparities for women in agriculture, natural resource management, education, food security, health and nutrition, and water.
